I doubt ACTA will go through. The global blackouts and the take-downs/hacks of websites all over the world made the U.S. Congress rethink regarding SOPA/PIPA.

The same is happening now regarding ACTA. Anonymous is targeting websites around europe and south america and bringing them down.

ye but im afraid that these "pro-ACTAish" people might say "no were not gonna give up, well sign this"...

Idk how about you guys, but i feel that this is like... "ending" the freedom of speach, freedom of opinions, and so on.

I live in Poland, a country which is free since kinda 20 years... im 19, so i dont remember the "non-free" times... i know it only from what my parents were talking about it...

But i would never, never :censored: think that i will live in times when i have to think "oh :censored:, will it go though or not? Will i be free to speak, share files, or not?"

From what I can find, ACTA was signed by the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea in 2011, and Poland is set to sign it on the 26th January. (two days time) It seems like Polish websites are planning to black out their pages a la Wikipedia, but it seems likely their government will push the legislation through regardless, as they don't believe it will affect the way their citizens use the internet.

I think we were all a little too late on this one...

The issue I have is with the provisions these bills have against the use of encryption, else I wouldn't be worried. I know SOPA certainly had a clause that would outlaw the use of Tor for example. Funny how the Tor Project is partially funded by some US federal agencies with the idea that it will allow Chinese citizens to browse the free web...
But yeah, if SOPA had such a clause, there's no doubt there's something similar in ACTA that could be used or rather abused to make use of end-to-end encryption illegal.

Damn governments are full of 50+ year old idiots who don't really know what the internet is or how they're going to f**k it up... All they see is the cash in their pockets from big media corps. Evil or Very Mad

F.U.C.K!!!

Is the polish goverment really going to sign this :censored:?
I thought that countries of UE have nothing to say, and that this is up to the EU parlament if they signt it or not, didnt know there is a possibility that a EU country signs it without UE parlament aproval...

For fuuuuck sake so the consore of internet is becoming a fact?

Well it certainly seems to be going that way.
However, there's probably more than enough people out there with the combined requisite knowledge to get round this.
I mean, you'll still be able to buy stuff from Amazon and all the big sites that pay their way, but I'm pretty certain indie game devs and small tech startups will get crushed under this. Social networks will probably have to pay the media companies to turn a blind eye to the content their users are posting, else they'll end up censoring their network so hard that all the users will leave.

For those who really wanna be under the radar they'll find a way onto the darknets.
Kinda like how some people find their way into those invite-only torrent trackers Wink

you know what guys?

I really throw up reading things like this. I will not longer be able to download music/games/movies/programs/virusesXD from the internet... i will no longer be able to share my files... Even when I share my opinions I can land in prison for it...

This all is just worth a big, lightbrown stinky shiit... oh well maybe even not that much worth...

I rly cant embrace it with my mind...

Here's about the filesharing hosts around the world. (I don't know if these are correct, but I could imagine they are)

MegaUpload - Closed.
FileServe - Closing does not sell premium.
FileJungle - Deleting files. Locked in the U.S.
UploadStation - Locked in the U.S.
FileSonic - The news is arbitrary (under FBI investigation).
VideoBB - Closed! would disappear soon.
Uploaded - Banned U.S. and the FBI went after the owners who are gone.
FilePost - Deleting all material (so will leave executables, pdfs, txts)
Videoz - closed and locked in the countries affiliated with the USA.
4shared - Deleting files with copyright and waits in line at the FBI.
MediaFire - Called to testify in the next 90 days and it will open doors pro FBI
Org torrent - could vanish with everything within 30 days "he is under criminal investigation"
Network Share mIRC - awaiting the decision of the case to continue or terminate Torrent everything.
P.S. mediafire has start deleting copyright protected files. Only left is the personal files.

Thing is, you could still pirate stuff if you wanted, but it'll cost you - rent a VPN in a country that doesn't give a damn about international (read: American) copyright laws and torrent on that. SSH in the box and download to your computer.

However, what I would rather see is for more content available online at reasonable prices. The music, film and book industries try to price the internet out of the market to keep their traditional business model going, which is plainly unsustainable.

It's the movie studios who should've come up with things like Netflix and Lovefilm, the big record labels should've come up with iTunes. They just haven't moved with the times. What annoys me is with e-books for example - an e-book from Amazon often costs more than the very same book in paperback from Amazon themselves. Why? It's not Amazon's fault - the big publishers are enforcing these prices, trying to maintain control and keep their archaic business model going. They're scared of the people self-publishing on Amazon because it means the publishers are surplus to requirement, so they try to make e-books unpopular by driving prices up.

I'm happy to pay to watch movies, download music and read e-books online, but not for the same price(or more) of the equivalent physical product. There's no packaging and shipping costs involved, so they should be cheaper.

15 "yes" votes and 40 "no" votes for the UK.
That's pretty good I reckon. Shame that overall it's only just about a "no" :/

I dunno if it will affect us or not. That depends on if we've signed up to pass EU legislation by default or not. I think it's because of crap like this that Cameron is trying to back us out of Europe.

I'm from Surrey... still live there LOL

ACTA won't be passed either. It was just an makeshift rule that was dug and implemented just because SOPA was postponed / literally canceled.
